Mrs. Kruitbosch has been teaching some great things in Food Studies 10/20/30! The classes have been creating amazing (and delicious) cakes, Charcuterie boards, and even created a continental breakfast spread! They have been working so hard in their Creative Baking, Food Presentation, and Entertaining with Food modules and the staff has definitely noticed.
Friday was a busy Day! It was beautiful outside and this was great as we had Pie a Teacher Day! Mr. Cross, Mrs. Bodnar, and Mrs Palmer were amazing sports who volunteered for this activity. There were lots of spectators and the Student Union raised some funds. The pictures speak for themselves!
The Archery Provincials were held at the Edmonton Boat and Sportsman show March 16 - 18. Our team came in 3rd out of 14 schools that attended! We are so proud!! Miss Allen took some great pictures of the action.
We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional traveling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Metis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all of the many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
An amazing Opening Ceremonies was hosted by WCHS. Mr. McBride and Mr. Meuser were terrific MC's who did a spectacular job of introducing the 24 teams from around this great province, each of which is chasing their dream, in their attempt to be remembered as ASAA 3A Basketball Champions.
Each team, led by a host and mini host, entered to applause, did a circle around the gym and stood in line - exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship, ready to applaud their rivals. There were teams from as far away as Lethbridge, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie and Lloydminster, as well as strong representation from the Central, North Central, South, South Central, Edmonton Metro, Calgary, North East, and North West Zones.
After all the teams arrived, Kiya Bruno sang a beautiful "O'Canada". We met our Mascot - "Weapon X" and expressed a big welcome, and a thank you to sponsors, volunteers, schools, officials and dignitaries.
Then Mr. Meuser and Mr. McBride challenged Mr. Cross and Mr. Hebert to a game of one on one...but instead two young ball players stepped up! Unfortunatley Mr. Mc Bride "pulled his hammie" (while pointing to his bicep) and instead of some one on one...LET THE GAMES COMMENCE!!!
There was some great energy by our students to celebrate our 3A Basketball Tournament Pep Rally! Mr Hetlinger was a great MC who introduced the student athletes and performers who represent WCHS over the school year. Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, Drama, Band, Wrestling Team, Curling team, Archery and Basketball were all represented! It was great to show our appreciation for all the students, mentors and coaches who do their best every time they can!
Of course there were some fantastic prizes thrown, shot, and given out! The t- shirt gun is always a fan favorite and it did not disappoint today! Two baskets were won for the raffle. Congratulations Aedan McComb and Love Buffalo!
A huge thank you to all coaches and staff for all they do to support the extracurricular programs at WCHS, and for allowing the Pep Rally to happen!

The JV Boys player of the game last night was Jordan Taylor. Jordan scored a game high 17 points and was a lot of fun to watch. There couldn’t have been a better kid to see have an awesome first game of the year! If you see Jordan today, please congratulate him on being the Player of the Game!
Congratulations to both our JV teams - the boys and girls both won their first season opening game over the Red Deer Falcons. The girls got us started with a 58-29 victory and the boys finished the night with a 71-52 win…Way to go SABRES! Next up both teams are at Lacombe hoping to continue their amazing starts.
The Indigenous Healers are making their mark at the WCHS. The leads; grade 12 students Ozzy Saddleback and Desmond Bruno started drumming and singing under Kevin Littlechild in grade 4 at Parkdale School. The drum group practices two times a week and have aspirations to learn many songs, have a round dance and sing at graduation. Watch out for the fund raisers. The money will go towards ribbon shirts for the boys.
On November 22, Mrs. Dingman and a group of students headed out to PE-KIWE Cultural Lodge for a ceremonial sweat. Mrs. Dingman offered some sentiments. Today was such a great day with Elder Ken Saddleback and Dawn Coyote. It was exactly what was needed at a time when the boys needed the extra support and comfort. Laughs, prayers and food were shared. The boys helped prepare the sweat and were very proud. I am very proud of them. I witnessed many special moments today for these young men. My mind and heart are full. This was a gift.
